Summer School will be held at Atwater High School this year and will run from June 13th – June 30th for session 1 and July 5th - July 20th for session 2. The classes available are limited to graduation requirement classes only with no math classes and very few science classes.
Classes for Advancement (No form is required for advancement courses, students were enrolled by their counselor during registration):
Online Classes in Health/Frosh Seminar (for incoming 9th graders), World History (for current freshman) and US History (for current sophomores) are available. Students will need to attend the first two days of summer school, June 13th and 14th. Students will also need to attend for semester finals on June 30th and July 20th. Frosh Seminar will require more days of attendance. Please be aware that the online classes for advancement are challenging and require students to work independently, be responsible for their own timing and have a computer with a reliable internet connection. Students are required to have a 3.0 GPA or higher in order to enroll in an online advancement course. Students in the online classes will need to attend an orientation on campus, dates to be announced. Computer labs will be available on campus if needed and students will need to come to campus to take benchmark tests.
Remediation Classes (a signed form is required for these classes, see below):
Only 10 credits may be completed during the summer. Students should have spoken with their counselor about summer school during the registration process in January or February and have been given a Summer School form. These forms must be signed and returned to the counselor by April 12th. If forms are returned after April 12th students will be placed on a wait list and may not get into Summer School.
Independent Studies will be the only program offered to allow students to make up credits. Students will meet with a teacher once a week for one hour to turn in completed assignments and get their new assignments for the week. Students are responsible for completing all work independently. Students will be contacted by their IS teacher to set up their weekly appointment. IS will be offering the following courses:
9th-11th grade English
Geography, Health, World History, US History
Life Science, Environmental Science, Earth Science
Art, PE, Consumer Economics, Career Education, Parenting Education
Once all students have been placed in Summer School we will try to post a list of which students are taking which classes. If you have any questions prior to the end of school please call your student's counselor. Any questions once school is out should be directed to Atwater High. We will try to update this website with any new information we may get between now and the end of the school year so please check back!
