8. If I take a Merced College class, will it count as a High School graduation requirement as well?
There are a few classes that count for both high school credit and Merced College credit. These classes are offered on campus and often require a student to take a test in order to earn their Merced College credit. The dual credit program is new to the Merced Union High School District and we will try to provide more information about which classes are offered as we get it. The Program of Study pathways show which classes are offered for dual credit and are organized by major. Click her to see the Program of Study pathway worksheetshttp://www.muhsd.k12.ca.us/Page/9358. Currently classes that are taken at Merced College cannot be counted for high school graduation requirements.
9. Does a class need to be repeated if a D was earned for the semester?
A grade of D is considered passing for a high school graduation course. A grade of D is NOT considered passing for a college A-G requirement course (click on the question to see the college A-G requirements). If a student is trying to complete the A-G requirements in order to be eligible for admission to a 4 year university directly after high school they must retake any semester of a class where they earned a D or lower. Classes can be remediated on campus, through our online program, through summer school or through Adult School. Not all classes are offered in the online, summer school or Adult School programs. Check with your counselor to see which program will be best for your situation.

College/Scholarship Questions:
1. What are the requirements to attend a 4 year university?
To attend a California State University or one of the University of California campuses directly after high school students must complete the A-G requirements (click on question to see requirements) with a C or better and take the SAT or ACT by December of their senior year. They must also complete an application to the CSU and/or UC campus of their choice by November 30th of their senior year. Some private universities have different requirements for admission but the A-G requirements will typically meet admissions requirements for most private schools. It is best to look up the admissions requirements for any private schools you may want to attend as soon as possible. This can be done by going to the undergraduate admissions section of the college’s website.
2. What are the requirements to attend a community college?

Orientation and registration procedures can vary from one campus to the next, be sure to see what the process is for the campus you want to attend (click here for California Community Colleges main website).
For Merced College this is a 4 step process. Students must go through an orientation which can be started online but typically needs to be finished in an orientation session with Merced College personnel. After orientation is completed a student will have their Merced College ID number and can take the Merced College Placement Test which is the next step. After the test is completed students need to meet with a Merced College counselor and bring their test results and a transcript with them. Once they have met with the Merced College counselor they should know which classes to enroll in and can register for classes on or after the registration date for their group. Registration dates vary for continuing students, incoming students and high school students, it is important to know when you can register and try to register on that day because classes fill quickly. Buhach Colony tries to provide at least one orientation and one testing date on our campus. Students should check with the Career Center and listen to the announcements in the second semester of their senior year for more information. Dates for orientation, testing and registration on the Merced College campus can be found on the Merced College website (click here for MCC website).
